Each week, we will post a new thread here where everyone can discuss the material covered during the study session.  We will only be monitoring and responding to finance-related questions and topics in this thread, so please keep the questions related to the material covered in each session.

Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I have a question.

To get into a Investment Bank as a Senior Software Developer, from outside Finance, do I need to have much knowledge about Derivatives and other financial instruments?

By the way, I enjoyed the session today.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Anind

@aninddroy

Why "senior" software developer and not just software developer? Do you have 10+ years of experience?

Typically the answer to your question is "no" but if you are truly trying to get into a senior more managerial type role you would need an understanding of the area you are trying to break into.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Well, I have around 9.5 years software development experience. So, can I try a VP level role?

I would definitely try a more technically oriented role.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Anind

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the talk today.

Could you describe the different positions for  software developers with math background  like me in the banking sector?

I mean, assuming an experienced software developer without fundamental knowledge would want to  join this business, what could he/she do? What are the specialization fields?

Thanks in advance.

@amanas There are two paths:

1. Go back to school. Get a formal finance/math degree and move into banking

2. Go straight for a pure dev job at a bank. Make sure you work with the business and make it your business every day to learn and make friends with those on the business side.

Hi Mark, hope you are well.

I enjoyed yesterday's talk. I do not come from a math-intensive background, I would like to if there are any prerequisites to make the most of these sessions.

Thanks a ton,

MM
